Meet the Newest HGTV ‘Design Star’

Well ladies and gentlemen, another season of ’Design Star’ has ended and there appears to be a winner. Ending its seventh season, the hour-long reality competition put 12 contestants to the test with challenges that would test their design abilities. In addition to new contestants, this season has seen some changes on the expert side as former judge, Candice Olson was swapped for rotating guest judges (a great decision as taping for her own show often left vacancies at the judges’ table) to include HGTV’s Sabrina Soto, former ‘Design Star’ winner Meg Caswell, Vanilla Ice, Kris Jenner and more. In addition, the show also said goodbye to last year’s host, Tanika Ray and hello to fan fave and season one ‘Design Star’ winner, David Bromstad (also hosts his own HGTV show). Bromstad was once host in former seasons and came back last year as a mentor.

While we didn’t tune in this season, it seems we missed out on a ton of great designs with many coming from recently crowned winner, Danielle Colding. Born in  Queens and living in Brooklyn, the Big Apple can be proud of their modern dancer turned designer. Her style is quite distinct demonstrating style and memorable modernity that perfectly translated on camera. Everything from her White Room Challenge (created a luxe, black and gold living area) to the Hollywood Art Decor Challenge (won) and HGTV Magazine Kitchen Challenge (won with runner up Brittany Simon) were hits among the judges bringing her steps closer to becoming ‘Design Star’ winner. Pair her skills with her fun personality and it appears HGTV has a new star on their hands.

As the newest edition to the ‘Design Star’ family, Danielle not only gains the title of winner, but also her own HGTV Show (called ‘Shop This Room’)! To learn more about the New York native or the show, visit www.hgtv.com
