Love ‘The Vampire Diaries?’ Take a Tour on the Set (Photos)

We must admit that ‘The Vampire Diaries’ is one of our favorite shows to watch. The story follows two vampire brothers, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) who are head over heels for the same girl, Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev). Currently in its third season, the CW hit drama has seen everything from witches, to werewolves, ghosts and vampire-werewolf hybrids. Throughout it all, life in the fictitious town of Mystic Falls,Virginia seems to continue as normal…on the surface.

The show does a good job of capturing the small town feel and history through well-executed set design. Since 2009, production designer Garreth Stover has enhance the mysticism of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ through design. Often traveling between 19^th century flashbacks and the present day, Stover steered away from contemporary furnishings to preserve a bit of classicism. No character’s home seem out-of-place as they all contain a homey feel void of stylish, and up-to-date décor. The Salvatore’s home for example pairs a little gothic with a bit of brocade. Rich hues and warm woods have been evenly dispersed throughout the home revealing its stately nature. Books, decorative accents and liquor are in abundance to suggest well-cultured and traveled brothers who bring an aged wisdom (in their own way).

Our favorite interior in the entire show is Damon’s private suite. Known for his sharp wit and abrasive nature, Damon’s interiors suggest something deeper. The bedroom and bathroom spaces demonstrate a minimalist design that evokes mystery and refinement making us question Damon’s “bad boy” image. Nothing seems wild or suggestive of a careless bachelor which is currently unfolding in the new season.
