Traditionally, the blue & white combination has been used for more formal table settings and designs. Common applications linclude fine china and vintage, porcelain finds. This combination also makes for the perfect wedding gift for couples who are looking for a more “grown up” dinner collection. For having such a prestine background, how can one apply blue and white to modern times?

Have you ever noticed in movies (or personal experience) that many beach homes incorporate blue and white into their design? That is because the pairings offerings a soft and casual feel to any space. Blue hues are soothing and function to relax our senses vs. stimulate them (like reds, oranges, and yellows). Being a neutral color, blue holds no bias and thus often accepted by visitors.

White has a purity in tone which allows people in the space to have an “awe” experience. Because of its unblemished appearance, it offers a fantastic and whimsical look at any space. When looking for a neutral to pair with a color, white is typically the top choice of its gentle effects. Unlike black and other darker neutrals, white works to both expand and lengthen a space. Its airiness makes an interior breathe easy.

Decorating Ideas & Tips
- Incorporate the blue & white palette into any space (both social and private) that you desire a relaxed environment. Common room applications include: bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room
- Looking for summer decorating ideas? Nothing stays summer bliss like a Hamptons inspired luncheon (or dinner). Pair classic white ceramic dishes with blue table settings for a clean and sophisticate look. Add a touch of yellow to complete your classic look. If you want something a bit more contemporary, pair stark white tableware with rich, cobalt blue pieces
- Blue & white textiles (pillows, accent rugs, window treatments) look gorgeous against warm, neutral furniture like wicker seating and honey woods
- Do not be conformed to the traditional navy and white palette. Though we think this pairing is fabulous, you can use a variety of blue hues against white (or off white colors like cream). If you would like a more mod space, use vibrant blues against whites
